• Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) is a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) established in the year 1997 as Central Referral Hospital. The first batch of MBBS students were enrolled in the year 2001. Exhibiting a unique combination of Sikkimese style and modern architecture, SMIMS is spread in a sprawling area of 25 acres of mountainous land. The Institute provides a very congenial environment for academic with lecture theatres well equipped with all the modern audio visual amenities. SMIMS library has a seating capacity of more than 150 students at a time with all the modern facilities of computers, internet, interactive CDs to support the teaching, learning, and research activities of the institution. The institution has a 750 seated auditorium with all modern facilities, at its top floor. The institute has a 42 seated conference hall and a 45 seated seminar hall which are used to hold state and national level events.

  • It is said that the standards of any enterprise are judged by the quality of its product. The results achieved by our institution speak for itself. This year out of 386 B.Tech students 225 passed out with First Class with Distinction and 124 were placed in First Class. There were only 29 students in Second Class. Thus 90% of B. Tech students passed out with First Class and above. In addition 29 MCA students 44 MBA Students, 7 M.Tech and 13 MSc. Students were successfully passed out under CGPA System.

  • The campus is self sufficient and fully residential with separate hostels for boys and girls, and provides excellent accommodation to all the students. Recreation rooms with TVs, telephone facilities and separate gymnasiums for boys and girls and sports facilities are available. The entire campus is now a part of the Global communication village by its recent induction of WiFi network connections. The campus-internet is being upgraded from 2 Mbps leased line to 8 Mbps Broad band line. The Institute has well equipped dispensary and a resident doctor with supporting staff. Those needing specialized treatment are sent to Central Referral Hospital at Gangtok in an ambulance available round clock.

  • The teacher guardian scheme of the institute is an innovative and unique concept wherein, each student is allotted a specific teacher guardian who provides emotional support, monitors academic performance, provides necessary guidance to the ward and communicates all such details regularly to the parents of the ward.

  • The EDC (SMIT) entered in its fourth phase of activities. It has been conducting various entrepreneurship awareness programmes where self help groups, local people, non teaching staff and students from Dept of Management Studies have been participating. The programme also laid emphasis on medicinal plants and herbs found in Sikkim and computer hardware and networking.
